As our summer season has come to a close, make sure that you take some time off of running so that you do not burn yourselves out and make running not fun. This is a good reccomendation for the end of any season!

Tips for running in a big meet (such as state!):

1. HAVE FUN!

2. Relax, relax, relax! Having a little bit of nervousness before a race can be good, it will help you run faster, but if you get yourself all wound up...you will not race as well.

3. Do everything the same as normal! Go through your warm-up, everything the same as you would before any other race...make sure you feel comfortable out there!

4. Run without fear! You are ready to race in this meet, now go do it. Everything that we have done up until now, the ice cold practices in the fog, the times you thought you could not do that last 200 and did it anyway...it has all led up to this. Leave everything on the track, and no matter how you finish, you will be happy!

Tips for meet day:

1. Be prepared! Bring food, drink, clothes for all types of weather so that you can race your best. Also, be prepared for a long day by bringing books, music, etc. for between races and while you are waiting.

2. Stay cool and in the shade! Being in the sun will take your energy away from you! Stay underneath the team tent when you are watching the meet!

3. Warm-up and cool down! Before each event, go through the entire warm-up that we do each day before practice. After each event, make sure you do a cool down jog!

4. STAY RELAXED AND HAVE FUN!

Four tips for calming race anxiety:

1. Rehearse race day
Visualize the day of the race, the track, the starting blocks, your warm-up. That way, when race day comes, it will be confidently in your mind.

2. Be Prepared
A day or two before, pack a bag with whatever you usually eat and drink before and during the meet, and gather in one place all pieces of your uniform and clothing for the day.

3. Get there early
Arrive at least an hour before your event so you have time to relax and get a quality warm-up in. The meets are organized on a rolling schedule which means that they will not slow down if they are running ahead of schedule. Avoid the panic, and get to the stadium plenty early.

4. Keep it fun!
It is the most important rule on the Gold Rush team anyway, so make sure to be having fun when you are at the meet. Keep it under control, but laughing and relaxing will help you race better.
